Kichwa Beaded Jewellery

Traditional, statement jewellery from the Quechua people in Southern Ecuador. These handmade, beaded pieces of jewellery feature intricate, colourful designs. In ancient times, these ornaments communicated the economic or marital status of the wearer.

Indigenous female artisans have crafted all pieces in this collection to preserve and celebrate their culture. They are shareholders at Maki, a Fair Trade Certified social enterprise.

Maki provides opportunities for economic and social development in rural, remote areas of Ecuador. At Maki, the artisans receive training and can profit from the artisanal skills inherited from their elders. Each piece represents not only a source of income but also a source of traditional community knowledge.
